A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF REPRESENTATION WE HAVE IN CONGRESS:

A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi happened to appear.

Ms. Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease. 'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?' 'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.' 'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi. Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?''

Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'

What to do??

My daughter bites her nail: at 2 1/2, this AMAZES me. I don't bite my nails, neither does my husband nor the sitter....so where did she pick this up from? I don't see her do it, but I know she does b/c I can't tell you the last time I cut her nails. As a child, I bit my nails, but my mom cured me when she told me of all the microscopic critters that lived under my nails and how it would make me sick....cured....I don't bite my nails.

Back to my dilemma....what the heck do I do?

Yes, it's Monday, but this will make you laugh!

If you don't laugh at this one, your not breathing

A firefighter was working on the engine outside the station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides, and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle.

The girl was wearing a firefighters helmet. The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat. The firefighter walked over to take a closer look. 'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration. 'Thanks,' the girl replied. The firefighter looked a little closer. the girl had tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles. 'Little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to runyour rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster.'

The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren.'

Sunday Scripture

Acts 2:38

A woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services, when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled: 'Stop! Acts 2:38!'(Repent and be Baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ , so that your sinsMay be forgiven.)

The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.

As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar: 'Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture toYou.'

'Scripture?' replied the burglar. 'She said she had an Ax and Two 38s!'

5K Results

In years past (too many than I like to admit), I used to run some sort of organized running event, once a month. It was my little way to keep me motivated and keep running.

Then, life got in the way and I just quit doing running events and cycling events. Shame on me for letting life get in the way.

As I've blogged about, I've been running more, trying to beat the 40 yr. bulge...I have a few years to go....so I am hoping to win this one!!

My husband has never participated in an organized running event, and he has asked me if I've ever one one...my response, "Nope, I'm not from Zimbabwa and I have a life." Which just about sums it up.....

I registered for a Valentine's Day 5 K.....I was excited b/c it had been awhile. I get there, over 500 runners, ready to run this on a cold day (I almost didn't go b/c I HATE the cold!). I had talked to my sister, the super-star runner the day before, and all she said was, "Run Fast." So I have her on one side telling me to run fast and on the other side my husband wondering why I'm running it if I'm not going to win. So, little ol' me runs my heart out and you want to know what??? I GOT 4TH PLACE IN MY AGE DEVISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH ME!!!!!!!!!!!! So, any of you that feels that you can't get out there and do it, you can! Trust me, I'm a TURTLE!

SA Stock Show

Nanna took Little to the stock show on Friday. It was a girls' day and she had a blast. She got bossy with the critters and was the only child in the petting zoo to get in trouble b/c she wanted to ride the Axis deer. That's my girl!!!

"I'm bigger than you and I can tell you what to do."

"Whatcha doing?"
"Hi Mr. Valasik Pickle stork."

"Hmmmm, I think you are about the right size to ride!"

"Faster, faster, faster." (she tells me this while running and driving, so why wouldn't she do it on a pony?)

Thursday's Thought

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." ~~ Dr. Adrian Rogers ~~

Friends

My daughter has both an alter ego and an imaginary friend....don't really have issue with either b/c it shows she has a creative mind. The hard part is that they are both called by the same name: WeeWee. The only thing I can come up with is she got it from the "Little Piggy" song, b/c she'll tell me that WeeWee says, "wee wee wee, all the way home!"

Sometimes she'll tell me that Wee Wee wants a drink or WeeWee is playing. Depending on her mood, she'll tell you she is WeeWee, or no, she's not WeeWee; same thing with pointing to herself to tell you she is or isn't....regardless, it is VERY funny!!

Here's your sign....

So we all watch Michael Phelps this summer rock-n-roll during the Olympics. He's an amazing athlete, but he sure is not all there when it comes to extra-curricular activities and even more so, who he hangs out with. I'm not going to speak to the activity that he got caught with b/c that's a moral debate I don't want to have. Basically I feel that you can do whatever you want to do behind your own closed doors, as long as you aren't harming someone (of course, this is all within reason and legality)......anyway, my question/comment is that if you are going to choose this as your extra-curricular activity, you need to pick better friends b/c I'd think this is something you'd do with folks you know and who wouldn't double cross you and post this to the Internet....so he wins the "Here's your sign" award for stupidity...on multiple levels!!!

Monday morning irony!

I love the weekends....for a multitude of reasons, one of them being that I can sleep for a little bit longer than usual. Well, that wasn't to be so this weekend...

Saturday morning: 6:30

Sunday morning: 6:45

Monday morning.......of course she's still snoozing HARD at 7:10!! (yes, running VERY late to work!!!)

I just wanted a little bit of sleep.....during the week, Little had woken up in the middle of the night (4:30, 5:00) and had to be put back to bed....so I just wanted a night without interruptions and a little later wake up time.....alas, it wasn't meant to be!!!!

Have an OUTSTANDING week! Love the rain...isn't much, but we'll take it!

Sunday Thoughts

A Pastor with GUTS!!

Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expectingthe usual generalities, but this is what they heard: Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We hav e shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem..
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea .
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story,'and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.
With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called 'one nation under God.'
.' Love & God Bless

FaceBook is EVIL

Ok, so I say that b/c it is such a waste of time; I guess that is why I downloaded it on my BLACKBERRY!!!!! YIKES, I am going insane!

It is lots o'fun b/c I feel like I'm back in HS and meeting up with all my HS buds and you find out that the geeks aren't so geekie and the nerds not so nerdy and maybe even the snobs not so snobby!!! (don't know if I'd go this far, but thinking positively!)

Fun all around and I've even peer-pressured my best gal to join as well as my sister!

While I should be working on my university work, I'm scoping out my friends, seeing what they are up to. It is funny b/c some folks tell the most RANDOM things and do so often....others, like me, don't really say much. I know, by reading my blog you'd think I'd be ALL over the FB thing, but I just really can't sum up what I want to say in a few lines. So, I don't say much. Also, my life isn't that interesting that I need to post, "Just taught a reading group, time for lunch." "Full day testing, time to go home." "Just gave daughter a bath, ready to sit on couch and veg..." Get it, I just don't think that is good stuff to post; so I don't. I have more fun sending messages to friends to see how they are doing.

I'll keep you updated. Oh, BTW, asked my brother in law to be my friend and he DENIED me....what a dude!!!! I know, I'm sure he doesn't want older sister in law peeping into his FB world! Like I care! ha, ha, ha

Help the needy and have fun and never leave your home!!

Free Rice Program

Below is an internet site that donates 10 grains of rice for every question answered correctly.

So far, they have donated 58,708,281,440 grains of rice over approximately two years.

There are approximately 7,000 grains of rice in a measured cup of rice.

That divides into approximately 8,386,897 cups of uncooked rice.

If you divide that by 3 meals a day consisting of 1 cup per meal, you get 2,795,632 people fed three meals in one day.

I have teacher friends that let their students do vocabulary activities on this website. So, pass along the information.

Getting Along

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBtFTF2ii7U

You need to watch this video clip....I'll wait until you get back.......

Now then, you've watched this and we wonder why humans, we are the same species, can't get along. These two animals are as opposite as you can get and they are the best of friends. They can look past color, religion and race, why can't we?

Terrific Book

Ok, so I finished this book a week ago and I'm just now getting around to writing this....crazy week!!!

This Voice In My Heart: A Runner's Memoir of Genocide, Faith and Forgiveness

I think Gilbert Tuhabonye might be the most amazing person that I've never met. Considering what he went through, as a young man and still has love for mankind and his country is an amazing feat!!! He is an inspiration to all.

He is a phenomenal runner and he has a running group in Austin...oh how jealous I am. I did look up some of his training groups....and the ones I am interested in are at times I just can't make. However, my lucky sister, has trained with him and because of this training, she shaved almost ten minutes off of her marathon time. That is FANTASTIC!!!! Also, (I'm so excited I can barely type) she knows Gilbert and over spring break, she is going to introduce me to him and we are going to run with him......or, he and my sister will meet me at the end and we'll have coffee!! ha, ha

This book, since this is what this post is about, talks about his life, his schooling, his family and then the awful genocide that occurred at his school. It is a heartbreaking story, that gives you faith in yourself and mankind.

He looks at every day as a gift from God....rain, sleet, snow, wind, whatever....shouldn't we all be that grateful for what we have every day?

After reading this book, you will strive to be a better person. And, just maybe, you'll want to pick up a pair of running shoes and see where your body can take you, even if it is a walk around the block!!!

Parenting Magazine

Yes, I know I said I wasn't going to gripe, and I'm not, but you really MUST read the article in Parenting Magazine this month (Feb.) titled, "Mad at Dad." I share this tidbit with you b/c it will make you breathe a little easier knowing that your husband isn't the only one that does these not so smart things (see, I tried to make that sound nicer, I could have said dumb, but didn't!) I'm not sure the article is on-line, but many moms get this magazine, so someone is bound to have it for you to read.
